Purpose of the Position:  The PA-C is an interdependent member of a health care team and provides medical services under the supervision of a physician. The Physician Assistant will be required to exercise sound professional judgment while providing primary health care services to ambulatory patients within the specific population served by the clinic. Patient assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic measures will be carried out in collaboration with the physician preceptor, and with appropriate specialists and other care agencies in the community. S/he will participate in staff meetings, conferences, in-services, training, continuing education and long and short term planning for Valley Family Health Care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  2. Hold current Physician Assistant Licensure in Oregon and Idaho.
  3. Must maintain active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure.
  4. Hold current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  5. Preferably Bilingual - English/Spanish.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess patients, perform physical examinations, order diagnostic tests and interpret test results within guidelines established by the preceptor physician and/or the Medical Director.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as administering injections, suturing, managing wounds and infections., etc.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Consults with preceptor physician for patients that are beyond normal scope of practice/level of knowledge prior to instituting or prescribing therapeutic measures.
  • Provides immediate emergency treatment and/or refers as appropriate.
  • Assist with meeting quality measures by completing tasks related to VFHC initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Patient Centered Care:

  1. Facilitate health and disease patient education.
  2. Support patient self-management of disease and behavior modification interventions.
  3. Coordinate continuity of patient care with external healthcare organizations and facilities, including referrals to specialty care providers, and continuity of patient care with patients and families following hospital admission, discharge, and ER visits.
  4. Promote clear communication among the care team and treating clinicians by ensuring awareness regarding patient care plans.

 


Physical requirements:

  1. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  2. Continuous standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling.
  3. Normal manual dexterity.
  4. Correctable vision and hearing.
  5. Must be able to read, write and speak clearly.
  6. Must have proficient keyboarding skills.
