POSITION TITLE:        RN-Vaccine Coordinator/Occupational Health (all sites)

RESPONSIBLE TO:     Director of Nursing  

FLSA STATUS:            Non-Exempt

 

Purpose of this Position:  Update current vaccine processes to maintain safe and accurate storage/handling, training & administration to comply with provider agreement.  Tasks include attending webinars, monitoring email from state vaccine program, communicating updates, providing education to staff, keep fact sheets up to date, update storage and handling guidelines, screening forms, obtain signed model standing orders, ensure accurate documentation in EHR and state registries, and participate at various clinics.

 

Assist providers in procedures and care of patients. May screen patients and assist them in presenting their problems to medical providers. Perform lab tests, administer injections or immunizations as requested by medical providers and according to established protocols. Provide health education. Adhere to all applicable clinic policies and procedures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must hold license in state of primary workplace and be licensed in the other state (Idaho/Oregon) within 90 days of hire date. Oregon and Idaho licensures must be maintained at all times.
  2. Must hold current CPR card (healthcare provider).
  3. Must hold current ACLS and PALS Certification or obtain within 6 months of hire and maintain at all times.
  4. Prefer previous experience with occupational health testing and screening and coordination for vaccines within clinic setting
  5. Must be accurate, exacting, orderly and methodical in work detail.
  6. Neat, professional appearance with a pleasant and positive manner.
  7. Willing to work within team concept.
  8. Sensitive to needs of VFHC clientele.
  9. Willing to work for the successful accomplishment of VFHC goals and objectives.
  10. Speech must be clear, distinct and convincing.  Prefer bilingual English/Spanish.
  11. Experience with basic computer and general typing skills. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Vaccine Coordinator:

  1. Assisting with ordering vaccines.
  2. Overseeing proper receipt and storage of vaccine per clinic.
  3. Documenting and tracking vaccine inventory for each clinic.
  4. Tracking vaccine doses to make sure everything is accounted for, for each clinic.
  5. Ensuring that temperature logs are being done correctly at each clinic.
  6. Ensuring that out of range temperatures are documented correctly, as well as corrective measures, and staff is following procedures at each location for out of range temp readings.
  7. Ensure that each location follows regulations and guidelines for handling and storing vaccines, per state policy, if the power goes out.
  8. Making sure that each location is following state regulations and policies regarding storage, inventory, packing and transporting vaccines as indicated.
  9. Ensuring that temperatures get reported to the appropriate state agency
  10. Setting up temperature monitoring devices.
  11. Assisting with organizing vaccines at each location as necessary.
  12. Ensuring that each clinic retains temperature logs and vaccine inventory per state regulations.
  13. Ensuring that expired vaccines get documented and discarded appropriately at each clinic per state regulations.
  14. Ensuring that all new staff completes mandatory vaccine education per the Provider agreements and retains a copy of completion at their clinic location.
  15. Providing up to date education on any vaccine changes per the State and CCD guidelines.
  16. Ensure that new education is provided to each employee and further education is provided if needed, to insure adequate understanding.
  17. Overseeing emergency preparations, including plans for ensuring safety of vaccine during emergencies including adverse weather conditions
  18. Ensuring that appropriate staff is provided with education on storage and handling of vaccines per clinic
  19. Performing random audits to ensure that vaccine documentation is completed per State regulations and Provider agreement at each clinic.
  20. Ensure that all staff has access to the Provider agreement and what it is.
  21. Stay up to date on education and updates for all vaccines utilizing state agencies and CDC websites.
  22. Actively participate in committees as assigned.

 

 Occupational Health:

  1. Screen new and prospective employees on vaccines previously received as well as titers
  2. Maintain documentation of new hires and required labs needs per policy.
  3. Maintain documentation of completed employee labs and ensure a copy is added to employee HR file.
  4. Maintain records of employees who require annual lab screenings.
  5. Work closely with HR regarding new hires, employee labs, lab results, and exiting employees.
  6. Investigate employee incident circumstances, including but not limited to needle sticks and workman’s comp injuries.
  7. Work closely with infection control nurse/DON/Medical Director regarding lab results, exposures, needle sticks, workman’s comp injuries.
  8. Provide education to employees on how to prevent accidents and injuries.
  9. Make suggestions in procedures and/or assist in developing other ways to make workplaces safer.
  10. Actively participate in committees as assigned.
  11. Effectively communicate with employees regarding lab requirements, lab results, employee education requirements, etc
  12. Effectively coordinate with staff regarding in person education and mask fittings.
  13. Effective communication and teaching skills related to policies and procedures.
  14. Assist with making sure all staff receives new education and any updates to policies and procedures as needed.
  15. Employee needs to be detail oriented, have good problem-solving skills, and be organized.
  16. Employee needs to be able to maintain confidentiality.

 

 

Patient Centered Care:

  1. Facilitate health and disease patient education.
  2. Support patient self-management of disease and behavior modification interventions.
  3. Conduct preventive screenings for patients.
  4. Promote clear communication among the care team by ensuring awareness regarding patient care plans.
  5. Facilitate patient medication management based upon standing orders and protocols.
  6. Participate on a team for data collection and health outcomes reporting related to patient centered care.

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Need to be able to lift up to 25 lbs frequently.
  2. Continual standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, stretching, lifting.
  3. Normal manual dexterity.
  4. Correctable vision and hearing.

 

Need to have Covid vaccination or be willing to get vaccinated.  Accommodations considered for Medical and Religious reasons.
