Emergency Management 101

Why do health centers have to perform Emergency Management activities? What is my role in Emergency Management in the clinic? This program was built to provide a basic understanding of health center staff responsibilities in relation to emergency management. This FREE 3-part training program is on-demand, self-paced, and geared toward and recommended to all health center staff.

Course Program Learning Objectives

By the end of this course program, the participant will be able to:

  1. Explain the necessity of Emergency Management activities within a health center, and the role of all health center staff in emergency management.
  2. Identify the 4 core elements of an Emergency Preparedness program under the CMS Final Preparedness Rule
  3. Develop and facilitate an emergency preparedness exercise such as a tabletop or full-scale event based on the CMS Final Preparedness Rule Training & Testing Program Requirements
  4. Learn about the CMS Onsite Survey process and where to find resources to prepare for one.

Part 1: What is my role in Emergency Management?

There are things everyone should know to prepare themselves for an emergency. This will walk you through what your role is in the emergency preparation and response phases. This training is for all health center staff. By the end of this training, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand why it is important that health center staff participate in Emergency Preparedness activities.
  • Understand what all health center staff should be aware of, in order to be prepared for an emergency.
  • Identify what areas you may need to find help.

 

Part 2: Emergency Management and HRSA Requirements

There are some requirements that HRSA makes of health centers for emergency management. ICHCA is here to help with that. This training is ideal for Emergency Prep leads in health centers. By the end of this training, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand what requirements HRSA has for health center Emergency Preparedness programs.
  • Understand how ICHCA supports you in meeting requirements. 
  • Know how to include ICHCA in your communications plan.

Part 3: CMS Final Preparedness Rule and FQHCs

Most health centers are funded at least up to 70% by Medicare and Medicaid programs, and as such, there are CMS Requirements that must be met. This training is recommended for Emergency Preparedness leads in the clinic. By the end of this training, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the 4 core elements of an Emergency Preparedness program under the CMS Final Preparedness Rule
  • Understand the requirements for each of the core elements of an Emergency Preparedness program under the CMS Final Preparedness Rule
  • Learn how to develop and run your own Training and Testing Program
  • Understand what a CMS Onsite Survey Procedure may look like
