POSITION TITLE:       
Dentist

RESPONSIBLE TO:     Dental Director  

FLSA STATUS:            Exempt

 

Purpose of Position:  To provide quality dental care in all phases of general dentistry in accordance with generally accepted dental practices, standards, and levels of care established by Valley Family Health Care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduate from an accredited DMD or DDS program.
  2. Currently hold or be eligible to obtain an active Idaho and Oregon State Dental License.
  3. Hold an active DEA Certificate without restrictions and be eligible to obtain an Idaho Controlled Substance Registration without restriction.
  1. Must hold and maintain AHA BLS certification.
  2. Be proficient in all aspects of diagnostic and clinical dentistry.
  3. Be compassionate toward patients and families and display a genuine understanding and empathy toward the underserved populations of Idaho and Oregon.

                          

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Perform all phases and aspects of direct clinical dentistry. i.e. General dentistry, Periodontics, Endodontics, Preventative dentistry, Pediatric dentistry, Prosthodontics, and Oral Surgery.
    2. Review dental health history and medical health history.
    3. Implement the philosophy of VFHC concerning public health dentistry emphasizing the role of prevention in dental health.
    4. Work willingly with community dental prevention projects to propagate an awareness of preventive dental health to the local community.            
    5. Maintain a level of proficiency that corresponds with new developments found within the Dental Community.
    1. Provide appropriate supervision of dental personnel as directed by Dental Director.
    2. Monitor and ensure all assigned personnel adhere to the guidelines set forth in the VFHC Dental Policies and Procedure Manual and the VFHC Employee Handbook.
    3. Assist the Dental Director in the information and monitoring of the VFHC Quality Assurance Program.
    4. Responsible for all dental equipment and supplies and provide the necessary guidance to others so that those assets are properly maintained and utilized to gain their maximum effect.
    1. Responsible for adherence to all State and Federal regulations concerning the safety of fellow employees and patients within the VFHC Dental Service environment.
    2. Supervise day to day operation of the Facility under the general supervision of the Operations Manager and Dental Director.
    3. Complete Continuing Dental Education courses required to maintain current licensure in Idaho and Oregon.
    4. Assist with meeting quality measures by completing tasks related to VFHC initiatives.
    5. Provide dental services on the MAC (Mobile Access Care) Unit in various locations as needed.
    6. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Complexity and Demands:

    1. Provide a position of leadership to accomplish the Mission of VFHC Dental Team.
    2. Deliver a broad range of Dental services to the entire population.
    3. Understand the complexity of the bilingual/bicultural clinic.
    4. Adhere to all clinic and administrative protocols set forth by the Dental Director and CEO of VFHC.
    5. Willingly attend and participate in all staff and committee meetings as required or assigned by the Chief Operating Officer or Dental Director.

    Management Responsibilities:

    1. Supervise all staff assigned to their clinic. Responsible to provide direct supervision of all Dental Assistants, Dental Receptionist personnel and Hygienists as may be assigned.
    1. Complete performance appraisals for supervised staff by due dates.
    2. Complete all time cards, reports and other administrative requirements by due dates.
    3. Manage performance issues with in a legal and appropriate manner following health center policies and procedures.

    1. VFHC Dental Policies and Procedure Manual.
    1. VFHC Employee Handbook.
    2. Idaho and Oregon State Dental Practice Assets.
    3. NHSC and USPHS guidelines. 

    Physical Requirements:

    1. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
    1. Able to endure long periods of standing, sitting, bending or stooping.
    2. Possess the appropriate manual dexterity to perform successfully the duties described within this Job Description - "Dentist".
    1. Correctable vision and hearing.
    1. The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
    2. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
    3. Need to have Covid vaccination or be willing to get vaccinated. Accommodations considered for Medical and religious reasons.

     

    Environmental Conditions:

    The VFHC Dental Service work environment is much like that of a typical dental office where the risk of exposure to strong bright light, a high decibel level, ionizing radiation, and blood borne pathogens can and do exist.
