    Good Afternoon,

ICHCA will be hosting 4 live cohorts to the Motivational Interviewing Series in 2023. More information regarding these sessions can be found here

    Register now!

    Clinical Staff Cohort

    January - March

Audience: Clinical Staff, MAs, Nursing, PAs, MDs, etc.

    Introductory level training

Unfortunately, most cases of chronic diseases faced in medical settings are preventable through changes in behavior (e.g., smoking cessation, weight loss, healthy diet, physical activity, taking medications as prescribed). Because such health behaviors are predictors of decreased health risk, health behavior change is an important element of our work with patients. MI is an evidence-based and strength-based conversation style that helps people resolve ambivalence and increase commitment for making a behavior change.

Outreach and Front Desk Staff Cohort

    April - June

Audience: Frontline Staff such as Front Desk, Outreach & Enrollment, CHWs, etc.

    Introductory level training

Outreach and Front Desk Staff are often the first point of contact for most patient interactions. Unfortunately, these Frontline Staff sometimes face verbal abuse and emotional outbursts from patients who are experiencing a variety of frustrating situations. These frustrating situations can arise from both personal issues (e.g. health anxiety, financial concerns, fear, lack of sleep) and systemic issues (e.g. scheduling problems, Covid, insurance concerns, staffing shortages). Positive and warm interactions with frontline staff is a high predictor of overall patient satisfaction. Motivational Interviewing provides proven skills to help rapidly de-escalate and increase engagement and trust with patients.

    Supervisors Cohort

    July – September

Audience: Executive Level Staff, Managers, Supervisors, Leadership, etc.

    Introductory level training

Managers working at an organizational level often experience ambivalence from their constituents, employees, and other stakeholders. It can be difficult to help organizations (and people within those organizations) make needed changes. It can be particularly difficult for people to make needed changes if it is perceived that the change is being externally forced. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based and strength-based conversation style that helps people resolve ambivalence and increase commitment for making a behavior change.  Motivational interviewing increases the likelihood that people will own the change behavior and become more internally motivated.

    Behavioral Health Staff Cohort

    October - December

Audience: Behavioral Health Staff and MI-invested staff

    Advanced level training

Ambivalence about making changes is one of the most common experiences patients face within behavioral health settings. Helping patients resolve ambivalence and become more motivated to make positive behavior changes should be a central theme for almost every therapeutic setting. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based and strength-based conversation style that helps people resolve ambivalence and increase commitment for making a behavior change. Motivational interviewing increases the likelihood that people will own a change behavior and become more internally motivated. Participants in this cohort will have more experience in motivational interviewing and in supporting behavioral change, so we will be able to dive deeper, more quickly with this cohort. The application of this education will be more advanced than previous cohorts, include more advanced and behaviorally complex examples, as well as nuanced practice.

    Hello,

It likely says in the document, but it's not jumping out at me.  Is this live or web based?

    Thanks.

    Hi Mary,

Great question! These will all be held via Zoom. We plan to post the recordings of the live web events once completed as well.

    Best,
    Kaylin
